“Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)
How often have we recited these words, whispered these words, or thought these words, maybe even prayed these words, and yet never given them any real thought or contemplation?
Today, many here in Canada think nothing of throwing away a slice of dry bread, or cold toast, or half a loaf only because it’s a day or two old.
Nonetheless I’m sure some us today have prayed the “Lord’s” prayer, and in doing so asked, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
If so, then has one considered to whom one has been praying?
In our hearts, what have we been asking for?
Do we think so little of the value for the bread and other foods God provides to us each day?
The Bible tells us, “The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season.” (Psalm 145:13)
Every living thing that surrounds us, shows us this is true.
The Bible also warns that days are coming when living on the earth shall become a much more difficult challenge for many.
“And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, but do not harm oil or wine.”
(Revelation 6:6)
